World Premiere of the new S 63 AMG Coupé

New York – 60 years after the legendary 300 SL "Gullwing" debuted in the "Big Apple", another sporty dream car with the three-pointed star makes its entrance: The new S 63 AMG Coupé takes centre stage on the Mercedes-Benz stand at the New York International Auto Show. The stunning high-performance coupé sees Mercedes-AMG enhance its model lineup with a luxurious sports car that combines supreme power and performance with groundbreaking efficiency. AMG is in the fast lane throughout the world, exceeding last year's first quarter sales figures by more than 50 percent. Mercedes-Benz USA, too, has been able to follow on seamlessly from its record year in 2013. Each of the first four months of this year ended with a new sales record.

"The new S 63 AMG Coupé is another exciting AMG dream car in the luxury segment. We now also offer our new two-door with the optional, performance-oriented AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. We are thus continuing our all-wheel drive and model offensive on our largest single market, the U.S.," says Tobias Moers, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

Top performance thanks to systematic lightweight design and more power

Thanks to lightweight design, vehicle weight has been reduced by 65 kilograms – despite a more extensive standard equipment package than on the preceding model. The weight saving benefits performance and fuel consumption in equal measure. Depending on the model variant, the S 63 AMG Coupé accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in as little as 3.9 seconds, while top speeds stands at 250 km/h (electronically limited). At the same time, the fuel consumption of the new AMG 5.5-litre V8 biturbo has dropped in the NEDC compared with its predecessor by 0.4 to 10.1 litres per 100 kilometres – although the new 430 kW (585 hp) high-performance unit from the BlueDIRECT engine family generates 30 kW (41 hp) more power. Maximum torque has even increased by 100 to 900 Newton metres. This makes the new S 63 AMG Coupé the most fuel-efficient model in its class. Based on power output, torque and fuel consumption, the AMG V8 is one of the most efficient series-production V8 engines in the world.

Further highlights of the S 63 AMG Coupé with rear-wheel drive include the AMG sports suspension based on MAGIC BODY CONTROL with the world's first curve tilting function. This enables the S 63 AMG Coupé to lean into the bend, similar to a motorcycle rider or skier, thus reducing the lateral acceleration exerted on the occupants. On country roads in particular, this technical innovation offers considerably more comfort and driving fun under high-speed cornering.
