Mercedes-Benz Vans Continues to Grow
Division successfully rebounds from the crisis, with sales, revenues, and earnings up significantly in 2010; return on sales at 5.8%
Strategic objective: "Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global!"
Fully exploiting existing potential and safeguarding the future with profitable growth
Investment in products and innovations
Double-digit sales growth in 2011
Sales to increase to 325,000 units in 2013
The economy rebounded in all of the key markets in 2010, leading to a growing demand for consumer goods and thus to an increase in transport volume. In line with these developments, the demand for vans also recovered substantially in the core regions. The market for midsize and large vans grew in Europe and North America. The demand for vans increased in Europe by almost 9% and in North America by nearly 20%. Growth was strongest in Latin America, where sales rose by more than 41%.
Mercedes-Benz Vans has greatly benefited from this development, increasing sales by 35% worldwide, to 224,200 units. The demand for Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner vans increased more rapidly than the respective markets in all of the main core regions. The division posted revenues of €7,812 million and successfully defended its position as the market leader for midsize and large vans in the core regions. EBIT totaled €451 million (2009: €26 million).
Volker Mornhinweg, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans, talked today in Stuttgart about Mercedes-Benz Vans' business development and its strategy for the future. "Mercedes-Benz Vans performed extremely well in fiscal year 2010, and its 5.8% return on sales is a benchmark result in the vans segment," said Mornhinweg. "We want to be a global growth area for the Daimler Group, which is why we are consistently pursuing an international growth strategy with the slogan ‘Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global!'"
