Ieri come oggi: Gottlieb Daimler e Carl Benz i pionieri della mobilità
Riepilogo

Daimler fire pump, 1890. Gottlieb Daimler’s idea of putting his engine to the largest possible range of different uses also yielded enormous progress for the fire brigades. On July 29, 1888 he filed an application for a "fire pump with engine drive" with the Imperial Patent Office in Berlin. DRP (German Reich Patent) no. 46779 was granted on April 15, 1889. The fire pump depicted proved itself for the first time in 1892: for five hours, it sucked water and pumped it 20 meters high into the burning roof structure of a factory producing bed feathers in Cannstatt near Stuttgart. The pump was later sold to the Erfurt fire brigade where it did valuable service until 1925. Technical data: two cylinders, a total displacement of 3041 cc and an output of 540 liters/min – 6 hp

On 10 August 1888 Leipzig-based bookseller Dr Karl Wölfert took off in a motorised airship from the factory yard of the Daimler Motor Company at the Seelberg in Cannstatt for a flight to Kornwestheim. The drive system was the famous single-cylinder Daimler engine with an output of 2 hp (1.5 kW) which powered two propellers: one in a vertical position and the other horizontal.
